Shift your perspective. Experience the true nature of your Self.

Shift your perspective. Experience the true nature of your Self.

Really fun Shiva Power class last night at Siddhi Yoga Shala in Athens. Thank you @mariamaganariyoga for inviting me to collaborate and teach at your studio. Really nice group of students. Thank you to everyone who came to take my Shiva Power class.

I was talking last night about the shift of perspective in yoga, and how profound it is when we make that shift. The mind is constantly falling down. When we are governed by the ego we are constantly judging, criticizing and commenting on everything. The mind is never satisfied. But when you touch the deepest part of yourself and realize that there is a part of you beyond the body, mind, thoughts, and ego, you start to see the world differently. You begin to move through the world with more gratitude. Love, kindness and compassion automatically starts to flow from your heart. The question arises in your mind — how can I be of service? How can I help others? This is yoga! Take the journey. Shift your perspective. Experience the true nature of your Self.

Healthy confrontation.

Healthy confrontation.

I was talking tonight in my class about healthy confrontation. This is one of the things that we are practicing on our mat that is so helpful off the mat too. Can you stay open and confront your challenges? Can you confront the people in your life in a healthy way and with an open heart? Can you sit in the discomfort of the asana and breathe. Stay soft in the heat and intensity of the fire! This is our work on and off the mat. Confrontation is healthy. The world is filled with challenges. What’s your relationship to the challenge? Can you shift your perspective. This is what yoga is asking us to do. Really fun to see you tonight — Equinox Encino! Thank you for your lovely energy and practicing hard with me but also keeping things lighthearted.

Walk to the center of your wheel.

Walk to the center of your wheel. Do you remember when you were a kid? There were those wheels you could get on at the park and your parents would spin them and you’d fly around and it was so fun and so exciting? You were hanging on out at the edge and everything was moving so fast.

Focus on the things you are grateful for in your life!

Focus on the things you are grateful for in your life!

We started the morning with just sun salutations, a long savasana, and then meditation. Sometimes that's enough. My teacher's would say if you don't have time for a full practice, do some sun salutations. The sun salutation practice is a gratitude practice. Thank you to the sun. Thank you for this day. Thank you for this moment. Thank you for this life. You can choose what to focus on today. You can choose what to give your energy to. You can choose who to be around. Focus on the positive. Focus on the things you are grateful for in your life. Build on them. Shift your perspective.

Be Grateful For The Things That Are Working In Your Life!

Be Grateful For The Things That Are Working In Your Life!

So often we complain about things that aren't working in our lives.  It is so important to be grateful for the things that are working in your life too.

I was picking up some things at the grocery store tonight.  One of the things I grabbed was a piece of garlic bread.  They had individual sized pieces of garlic bread!  I was so excited.  Individual pieces of garlic bread!  Incredible.  You don't understand.  They didn't used to do this and I asked them to make these individual pieces of garlic bread for me a few weeks ago.  I have to explain this to you.  A few weeks ago, I had asked the people at the bakery to please make some smaller pieces of garlic bread.  I was always disappointed when I was shopping, finding only giant, family sized, pieces of garlic bread, when I just wanted a small piece, to heat up for myself.  So, they started to cut some of the garlic bread into smaller pieces and began to offer this as well.  It was such a small thing but it made me so happy.  So, I started to add a small piece of garlic bread to some of my meals over the last two weeks.  Perfect.  Just enough for me to add to my meal without having to throw any away.  Perfect!
