Focus on the positive. What did you do really well? What could you improve upon? Analyze your experience. When you start teaching regularly you won’t get feedback from your students like you do in a Teacher Training program. The students who don’t have a positive experience just won’t come back to your class. You have to analyze your own experience. You have to look at what worked and what didn’t work. Every class you teach will offer you the opportunity to improve. As your awareness increases you will get better at analyzing your own experience too. Be specific. Try not to judge yourself. It’s a journey. It’s a practice. Focus on the positive first and then think of the things that you can work on for the next time. When we are practice teaching I always ask the students to offer feedback the same way. Focus on the positive. What did you really like about the class? What could the teacher improve upon? If you are negative and judgmental it says more about where you are on your journey than it does about where the person is on their journey — that you are judging.Read More
So often we complain about things that aren't working in our lives. It is so important to be grateful for the things that are working in your life too.
I was picking up some things at the grocery store tonight. One of the things I grabbed was a piece of garlic bread. They had individual sized pieces of garlic bread! I was so excited. Individual pieces of garlic bread! Incredible. You don't understand. They didn't used to do this and I asked them to make these individual pieces of garlic bread for me a few weeks ago. I have to explain this to you. A few weeks ago, I had asked the people at the bakery to please make some smaller pieces of garlic bread. I was always disappointed when I was shopping, finding only giant, family sized, pieces of garlic bread, when I just wanted a small piece, to heat up for myself. So, they started to cut some of the garlic bread into smaller pieces and began to offer this as well. It was such a small thing but it made me so happy. So, I started to add a small piece of garlic bread to some of my meals over the last two weeks. Perfect. Just enough for me to add to my meal without having to throw any away. Perfect!Read More
The sun is the lightest and brightest thing in our world. One of the things we are working to do in yoga is to become lighter and brighter. The ego and mind are constantly pulling us down. It takes hard work to move out of the tamasic state of heaviness and sluggishness. We must lift ourselves up and elevate ourselves, shifting our perspective away from the ego and the mind, attachment and aversion, and connecting with the part of ourselves that is pure consciousness, pure awareness. That same pure awareness, that same pure consciousness, that same light that is in you is also in me. That same light that is in us is in everyone.Read More
