Building a Meditation Practice.

It took me a long time to develop a meditation practice. Building a self practice is challenging. The best way to start is with a very short practice. Try five mins everyday. Try that for one month and see how it goes. You don’t have to start with a long practice. It’s better to pick something you know you can do everyday. Think of it like brushing your teeth. After one month if you were able to do the practice consistently then try adding another five minutes. Pick one technique. It’s not helpful to do every technique you know and jump from one to the next. The yogis often compare this to digging a well. You don’t want to dig a bunch of shallow wells. You will never hit water. Dig one hole and go deep! A consistent, daily meditation practice will change your life.

Beautiful Views from Temescal Canyon Trail.

I’m getting over being sick the last week. It feels amazing! I was feeling so rough last week. My body completely shut down. I’ve been pushing pretty hard the last few months and traveling a lot. My sleep has been pretty disturbed, after hopping from time zone to time zone. This is from an hour ago on the Temescal Canyon Trail. I’ve been hiking the last few days to build up my strength again. Not sick anymore but my body is still feeling pretty weak. It’s been ages since I’ve been hiking too and it feels so good to be back in nature. I’ve missed these incredible views and soaking up the energy of the forest. It’s been a really good year. There’s been ups and downs. Plenty of challenges. And lots of big breakthroughs. I feel like this year I planted a lot of seeds. And I let go of a lot of things that have been holding me back. And I know what I want in 2019. I can see it clearly.

When you are in ignorance — you don’t know the patterns that you are stuck in. You can’t see the forest for the trees. But once you know, once things are revealed — you have a responsibility, and if you choose to stay living in the old pattern, knowing that it’s not serving you, you’re choosing to hold on to the past.

I feel like getting sick last week was the physical manifestation of a whole lot of stuff that I have been working through finally coming to the surface and I am so ready to let it all go. It’s time to move forward.

Offer gratitude. Set your intention. Concentrate.

I’m ready for this new year! Excited and open hearted. Ready for the challenge.  Ready for whatever comes.

Closing Ritual on our last day of the Shiva Yoga 200hr Teacher Training in Cabo! We are back where we started but we’ve been on quite a journey. Yoga asks you to shift your perspective and change your relationship to your Self. When you shift your perspective and change your relationship to your Self, you change your relationship to everything around you. Your experience of the world changes. The world hasn’t CHANGED for you but it has changed for YOU. Your experience of the world has changed. The transformation was all within you. Everything has a beginning, middle, and end. Then, it starts all over again. Every ending is a new beginning. Time is moving very quickly. Breathe into it. Enjoy the journey. Inhale and exhale — over and over again. Enjoy the moment and then let it go. Time to move forward.

Anything that  is not serving you -- let it go!

We have come together from as far away as Dubai, Japan and Brazil, from Los Angeles, the Bay Area, San Diego, Mexico City, and some of our group is from here in Cabo too! It’s been an incredible month. I will miss this wonderful group when our training finishes in a few days. Time is passing so quickly. Breathe into every moment. Enjoy this incredible time as much as you can. Love everyone. Life is too short. Hold space for people. Pass on what you are learning and keep learning and growing yourself. Anything that is not serving you — let it go. Anyone that is dragging you down — let them go. There are such amazing people in the world. If you start vibrating on the right frequency they will find you. Send out your signal. Yoga encourages us to change ourselves. Don’t ask the world to change for you. Shift your perspective and change your relationship to the world. Namaste, Everyone! Leading the Opening Ritual in one of our Shiva Power classes here at Baja Soul Yoga. I always teach my students to check in at the beginning of class. Before you set off on any journey you have to know where you are starting from. What’s your entry way into this practice? How does your body feel right now? Check in. How are you out of balance? Set up a baseline. How does your body feel? Observe your breath. What’s the state of your mind right now?  If you check in at the beginning of your practice, you can compare this to when you check in at the end of the practice. What’s different? What’s shifted? What’s changed? Are you closer to balance? Is your breath flowing more evenly? Do you feel lighter? Is your mind quieter? Do you feel a deeper connection to your Self? Yoga practice is about personal transformation. It’s not dogmatic. It’s not about someone else telling you how you should feel.

The ego says, ‘I want the world to change for me!’ Yoga says, ‘change yourself and your relationship to the world will change too.’ What’s left over when you peel off the layers and let go of your body, mind, thoughts, ego, and emotions? What’s left over in the stillness, in the silence? What does at feel like to sit at the center of the wheel? Look at all the drama, all the noise, all the thoughts, way out at the outer edges. What’s left over in the stillness and the silence? You. The most subtle aspect of who you are. Sit in the center of your Self. Look at your thoughts. Look at your mind. Experience the true nature of your Self.

2 Weeks Into Training...


Morning selfie with some of my students, arriving early for training! We are 2 weeks in! Leading these programs is transformational for me as well as the students. It’s an exhausting experience for all of us. My goal is to push them out of their comfort zone, hold space for them, encourage them to grow and challenge themselves. In the process, I am also pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I am challenging myself, and they are pushing me and helping me to grow too. We are in the fire together, breathing into it, surrendering to the experience. It’s a beautiful ride! It’s a beautiful journey! Namaste.
