The King & Queen of the Asanas -- GODA Yoga in Culver City

The head balance and shoulder stand are considered the King and Queen of the asanas.  Why?  Is it because these are the most advanced poses in yoga?  These two poses are more than just asanas.  They fall into the category of mudra, the positions that the body is placed in, in order to have an affect on the energetic body, the nervous system and the mind.  The head balance and shoulder stand are called the reversing the flow positions, or, the viparita karani mudras.  The head balance gets its name because it has an effect on the sympathetic nervous system, this is commonly referred to as the masculine side of our autonomic nervous system.  The shoulder stand gets its name because it has an effect on the parasympathetic nervous system, commonly referred to as the feminine side of the autonomic nervous system.  Students will learn the philosophy behind the practice of these two poses and how to practice each pose in an effective, healthy and safe way.   This workshop will also cover essential warm up poses, preparation poses, modifications and advanced variations.  There will be plenty of time for practicing each pose and feeling the effects of these two powerful mudras.
