On to the next adventure!

On to the next adventure!

On to the next adventure!!! I’m flying to New York today. It’s a long journey. First to Chongqing. I have a layover and then a direct flight from Chongqing to JFK. It’s been an amazing trip so far. These last 2 weeks in Shanghai have been a lot of fun. I’ve met a lot of new students and made a lot of new friends. My first stop on this trip when I left Los Angeles was to New York. Feels like a long time ago! I’m excited to be back in New York. Hoping to get a practice in with Dharma. I’m teaching 3 special event Shiva Power master classes at Pure Yoga this week. If you are in New York please join me for a class. These classes are super affordable and free to Pure Yoga members. I’m teaching as part of the Visiting Teacher Series. Hope to see you there. Namaste. See you again soon, Shanghai! And to everyone in China — thank you for being such amazing hosts and treating me so well these last 2 months.

Urdhva Mukha Vrkshasana! Upward Facing Tree Pose.
Another cool shot from my photo shoot with fellow yogi and yoga teacher, Richard Baimbridge.
Yoga has been so good for me on every level. It’s exciting to see more and more people embrace the practice and see how it’s changing people’s lives. When I first started practicing there were hardly any men practicing. When I did my first Teacher Training program I was one of three men in the training and there were over fifty women. I love seeing more guys getting on their mat and experiencing the benefits of the practice. Yoga is not just for girls. Guys! This practice will challenge you on every level and will kick your butt. And there’s nothing I’ve found that has the same effect on the mind. If you want to change your life — this is where it’s at. Concentrate, connect to your breath, turn inward, and experience a deeper connection to yourself.

Standing in Stillness.

Standing in Stillness.

I love this shot with my yoga brother, Richard in Shitang last month for the Zhejiang Yoga Cultural Festival. Richard is so inspiring! He’s been here in China for 20 yrs. He speaks mandarin beautifully. He’s a great yoga teacher and a really good guy too. We went on this adventure one afternoon with the owner of Haipoo Yoga. It was such an interesting day. Lee took us to these incredible caves near where he grew up and we got some beautiful shots. I think this was shot with a drone. I like that it’s simple. Stand in mountain pose in stillness. Think of the qualities of the mountain — big, tall, strong, stable, grounded, and still. Yoga doesn’t have to be a fancy pose. Sit in stillness and concentrate on one thing. Or stand in stillness. This is the hardest practice. The Jain monks used Tadasana as a meditation practice. It’s a really important pose in Jainism. Fun hanging with you, Richard! Namaste.

The Symbol of Hanumanasana

The Symbol of Hanumanasana

A couple of weeks ago I got to do this really fun photo shoot at this incredible location in Shitang, in the mountains, about an hour from Wenling. It was a really fun afternoon. We went to these beautiful caves and I learned that this was where my friend Lee grew up. I loved that he took me here to show me this place. I am enjoying the Chinese culture so much on this trip. My hosts have all been very kind and warm hearted and it’s moved me several times how they treat guests with such honor. I was at dinner the other day and poured tea for the table before filling my own cup. This is a Chinese custom. I didn’t realize I was doing it until the table stopped and looked at me, and then everyone starting laughing. They told me I was becoming more and more Chinese everyday.

I take a lot of pictures in hanumanasana. I love this pose. I love the story of hanuman and the symbol of masculine and feminine coming together. What happens when masculine and feminine energy come together in perfect balance? A new energy is born! The energy of creation! Hanuman is a symbol of perfect balance, a symbol of the awakening of the kundalini force, a symbol of our yoga journey. Study the symbols. Yoga is sometimes described as a code language. You don’t see the signs until you are ready to see the signs. The teacher doesn’t show up in your life until you are ready for the teacher. And you don’t find balance and experience a deeper connection to yourself and the world around you until you are ready for that experience.

Dreamer Yoga Festival Teacher Introductions and Party!!! This was a fun night. Grateful to have been invited and honored to teach with such a talented group of teachers. Some beautiful performances after the teacher introductions and a hot and sweaty Zumba class at the end of the night. I even got an award for being one of the students dancing with the most enthusiasm during the Zumba class. Not necessarily with the most talent but with the most enthusiasm.

Grateful for all the help in Guangzhou!

There’s so many people helping me on this trip! I couldn’t do it without you. Thank you, Wendy for all your help seeing me off to the airport. Appreciated you waiting for me.
At the end of my class, I always encourage my students to give thanks for everyone who helped them on their journey. I always take a moment and thank my teachers and my parents during this time, and sometimes someone else who has helped me that day comes to mind and I make sure to offer gratitude for them as well.
We are never doing it alone. So many people to be grateful for! Sending you all gratitude now. Thank you for your help, big and small. Know that you made a difference and it didn’t go unnoticed. Namaste.

One of the greatest - Tymu Howard

There’s some great teachers here at the Yonion Festival this year! I’m honored to be teaching alongside some of the best in the world. One of the teachers here is Tymi Howard. So nice of Tymi to come to my Shiva Power class today. Tymi has a big following all over the world, and especially here in China. She owns Guruv Yoga in Orlando, Florida too. I have been collaborating with her at her studio for the past year but we had never met and we finally got to connect in person here in China. Small world. This year she invited me to teach a small part of one of her Teacher Training programs too, which was a lot of fun. She has a wonderful community in Orlando. I’m excited to be heading back to Orlando in June to teach some classes and workshops at her studio again too. Love this girl! And I love this picture.

Where is your journey taking you next?

I’m off to the Yonion Festival! Excited to be teaching at this festival in Xiamen for the first time. This is one of China’s largest yoga festivals. I’m honored to be presenting with some of the world’s leading international teachers, including my friends @tymihoward @diceyoga and @yogawithbriohny I’m in Brussels now. Waiting on my flight to Beijing. Where is your journey taking you next? If you show up with an open mind and an open heart the possibilities are endless. Enjoy the ride and breathe into every moment. The thought of all the travel I’m doing this year and being away from home for so long - several months on this current trip - made me very nervous at first and definitely took me out of my comfort zone. I’m loving being challenged like this, though and being forced to give up control. It’s such a beautiful practice. Let it go. What are you holding on to? Let it go. Trust. Have faith. The Universe has a plan for you. Just keep taking steps forward. Breathe. It’s not supposed to feel comfortable. Are you really nervous? Or are you excited and you’ve forgotten how amazing it feels to be excited, vulnerable and alive! Namaste, my friends. Thank you to all of you who I’ve met so far on this path who have inspired me to get out of my comfort zone. We are walking this path together.

Virabhadrasana. The Hero’s pose.

Virabhadrasana. The Hero’s pose.

Virabhadrasana. The Hero’s pose. Stay calm. Stay grounded. Breathe. Be vulnerable. Open your heart. The strongest people you will ever meet are also the most vulnerable. Courage is not avoiding the fire. Courage is standing in the fire and breathing into the discomfort of the unknown. A hero is strong but not wild and not out of control. Strength isn’t demonstrated by losing your temper, and giving in to your emotions. A bully is not strong but incredibly weak. Strength is demonstrated from restraint. Stand your ground. Find stillness. It is easy to be tossed and turned and pushed around by all of life’s challenges. Stay focused. Stay on your path. Concentrate. The battle is not with anyone else it is with yourself. The battle is between you and your mind. Who is in charge? Who is driving your car? Is it you or the mind? Each time you win this internal battle between you and your mind you increase your will power. Each time you lose this battle with the mind, the distractions, the patterns you are caught up in become stronger and have more power over you. Move through your life like a hero.

Beautiful sunrise this morning on the Blue Star Ferry!
If you wake up early enough you sometimes get to see the incredible beauty of nature. A new dawn. A new day. We practice yoga first thing in the morning because this is a transformational time. The day moves from darkness to light. Each sunrise is a new beginning, a chance to reinvent yourself, to shift your perspective. This is a great time to set intentions and to head in a new direction. This is also a vata time — a time of intuition and connecting with source. Use your meditation practice to go inward. Let the light move through you. What inspiring thoughts and ideas are bubbling to the surface? What creative forces are moving within you.

My apartment in Athens is right below the Acropolis! Athens is such a beautiful city. I’ve spent the last two days walking around and exploring little, narrow cobblestone streets, cute cafes — with incredibly fresh food, and checking out some of the beautiful architecture and historic buildings here. The city has a really nice vibe. I’m so glad I’ll be back next week and get to do a little more sight seeing. I’m teaching classes and workshops next weekend at Panos Skylos and Upward Dog Yoga! Excited to practice with you again Athens Yogis.

Just finished teaching a really fun Shiva Power class at Pure Yoga West! My student, Pollina came to take class. So nice to see so many old friends on this yoga journey. I love when students come to a class or workshop who practiced with me years ago. Really special! There was another student in class who told me she used to practice with me in LA at Yogis Anonymous too. Such a small world. Like attracts like. Same attracts same. Keep putting out your vibration. People who are looking for what you are offering will find you, even on the other side of the country. Thank you for coming today, Pollina! Namaste.
